My first experience with an AMD graphics card hasn't been smooth sailing. I'm using an RX 570, which came overclocked from the factory—brand new, not secondhand.
From the moment I installed it and launched a game, I've been plagued by a frustrating black screen issue. Many others seem to have this problem, yet solutions are scarce.
My processor has an integrated graphics unit, so I didn't need a dedicated card before. The crash occurs under heavy load; the displays go dark, but I still hear game audio. The card gets excessively hot; both the card and the case become uncomfortably warm.
Initially, I suspected a power supply problem, as the common advice for any PC glitch is "get a better PSU". This led me to upgrade from the 600W unit that came with the case to an NZXT 950W C950 Gold-rated PSU. A significant overkill, perhaps.
The issue persists. The RAM, motherboard, and processor work flawlessly, confirming my suspicion that the problem stems from the recently added graphics card.
My workaround: lowering the graphics card clock speeds (MHz) in AMD Software: Adrenalin from their overclocked values to the factory settings. This has resolved the black screen crashes for the past 8-9 months.
A snapshot of my current settings is attached. The RX 570 operates stably at standard MHz levels. The displayed values are arbitrary; they change frequently due to automatic software updates. Even with these adjusted values, system stability remains unaffected.
The catch: the card reverts to overclock settings after a power outage. The same happens after I update or reinstall the AMD software. For now, I simply lower the clock speed again whenever I encounter a black screen. I'm sharing this solution, hoping it assists others facing the same problem.
My system specs are:
ASUS EX-A320M-Gaming DDR4 USB3.1 Aura RGB mATX AM4 motherboard
18 GB DDR4 3600 MHz Apacer Panther-Gold RAM (2x9GB)
AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 4.0 GHz AM4 CPU
600GB Samsung 870 EVO SSD
Cooler Master H500P Mesh ATX Case
24 inch ASUS VP228HE FHD LED monitor
1.2 TB Samsung 990 Pro M.2 NVMe SSD
Sapphire RX 570 Pulse 8G graphics card
NZXT 950W C950 power supply
Plus, two additional HDDs are present in the system.
I forgot to mention: when the black screen occurs, the GPU shuts off entirely, requiring a hard reset of the PC.
